     Product Tips
            Use your data tapes efficiently

  1.    Perform total backups weekly and incremental backups daily.

  2. Clean the tape drive heads after about 20 backups or restores.

  3. Retension your tapes periodically.

  4. Rotate new tapes into your backup schedule and always keep at least one new tape on hand.

  5. Label your tape cartridges so you will know which tapes to restore if the need arises.

  6. Archive seldom used files to tapes to make efficient use of your hard disks.

  7. Store your data tapes in cases or in caddies.

  8. Keep them away from magnetic fields including power supplies, telephones, and monitors.

  9. Store a weekly total backup off-site in case of fire, flood or theft.
